One of the major rivers in the Iberian Peninsula, the third longest next to Tagus and Ebro is the Douro. This should definitely be on your list if you’re going on a vacation to Portugal. The photo already gives you a peek of this paradise, but it still doesn’t give justice to its actual natural beauty.
The river spans 897 kilometers but only the parts of the Portuguese extension right below the fall boundary can be navigated using a light rivercraft. The Douro Vinhateiro, a part of the Douro Valley, has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
