Arguably the most well-known guelta in the Sahara is the one situated at the Ennedi Plateau, the Guelta d’Archei. It can be found in the southeastern part of the Fada town and the northeastern area of Chad. It serves as home to a wide variety of animals, including the Nile crocodile.
Apart from the wildlife, people travel to this place to view the remarkable rock paintings and the Middle Holocene remains. These are signs that there were once species that lived in the Sahara desert. It’s an off-the-beaten travel destination that requires four days of travel from the capital of Chad, n’Djamena.
