Italy is many things to many people. Some laud it for being the birthplace of world renownded artists and intellects. Some gush over its extensive collection of scenic views. Some admire its rich culture and history. And some can’t get enough of its excellent culinary offerings.
One of the places in Italy that’s frequented by world travelers is Cinque Terre, a rugged coastline nestled on the Italian Riviera. It’s located in the Linguria region, west of La Spevia, and consists of five villages namely, Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore
Boasting of rolling hillsides, and the Cinque Terre National Park, this place has all the right to be hailed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. It has practically everything you’ll hope for in a tourist destination–nice weather, stunning sights, exciting activities and hospitable locals.
For many years, people have build houses on the steep and rugged cliffs overlooking the sea. And this is one of the best things about Cinque Terre that attract tourists from all over. If you’re not contented with just looking at this photo, and you’d love to see it for all of its grandeur with your own eyes, here are some tips to make your vacation even more worthwhile:
- Booking your accommodation – One thing you have to know about this place is that finding a hotel is not that easy. If you arrive without reservation during the peak season of June to September, it’d be virtually impossible to find any vacant room. Check out Levanto town where there are a lot of hotels, vacation rentals, bed and breakfasts and even camping sites. Be sure to call up a day before your arrival to confirm your booking. As for the rates, a double room typically costs 40 to 80 Euro.
- Getting here – The train system in this region is pretty impressive so no need to rent a car, unless you prefer the privacy. If you decide to go by train, your choices inlcude Eurostar, Intercity and Direct. If you’re arriving by plane, the nearest airports are located in Rome, Florence, Bologna, Genova, Pisa, and Milan.
- Getting around – Renting a car is one option. Walking through the streets is another. Just see to it that you don’t look like a meandering tourist. Blend with the crowd as much as possible. Taxi service is available in Monterosso, Vernazza and Manarola.
