One of the must-not-miss attractions in Istanbul, Turkey is the Blue Mosque, officially known as the Sultan Ahmed Mosque. This historic mosque got its nickname from the blue tiles that were used to cover the walls inside. It was built during the reign of Ahmed I, sometime in the 1609 to 1616. It is still being used at present as a place of worship. Other than that, it also features the founder’s tomb and a hospice.
You’ll surely be impressed with the design, which is said to be “the culmination of two centuries of Ottoman mosque development”.
