A lovely quaint village sitting alongside the Arrow River, Arrowtown was established in 1862 when the Otago gold rush was at its prime. Soon, the settlement expanded, and the pioneers have made this place their home building cottages, hotels, churches, shops and structures, some of which still exist today.
If you’re visiting this place, one attraction you can’t miss is the Chinese settlement that can be found at the river edge. This was constructed by Chinese miners in 1868. There’s also the Lakes District Museum situated along the Buckingham Street, which is considered one of the country’s best small museums.
